Personal Background:
I have been happily married to Johanne since 1971. We have three children: Matthew, Kimberley, and Justin. We also have four grandchildren. Johanne and I have been living in Baie d’Urfe since 1974.

Business Background:
After teaching for 4 years, I joined London Life in 1973. In 1979 I opened my own life brokerage firm, David D. Humes Insurance Agency Ltd, which then spawned off DD Humes Financial Services. This is a true family business, as over the years, brothers and sisters, my mother, my wife, our sons and daughter, both nieces and nephews have at one time or another worked with our firm. What makes our firm somewhat unique is our holistic approach to the planning process. We encourage clients to create a blueprint of what it is they want to do with their lives, and then we help them achieve their dreams through sound financial advice. We have found that our approach helps clients in their quest for life balance something we believe everyone either consciously or unconsciously strives for.

Community Service:
I was involved in minor hockey for 25 year involvement in hockey, either coaching or in an administrative capacity. At one time or another I have been involved in local politics and community affairs. I have served on occasion as a warden at my parish church. During the 80’s I was an active member of the Lakeshore Civitan Club, which is an organization that supports a number of community endeavors, but with a focus on the mentally challenged. I believe involvement in initiatives like this helps to not only keep one grounded, but also enhances your appreciation of your own good fortune. I am also a founding member of the Loyola High School Alumni Association and have served on both their Foundation and Board of Governors.

Extracurricular Activities
I still play Old Timers’ hockey twice a week. The physical and social benefits are undeniable.  I also enjoy playing golf. However my lifelong passion has been angling and more laterally hunting in the great outdoors. My game plan is to keep as connected to nature as I can for as long as I can. Coincidentally my first date with my wife was a fishing trip, and when she asked if we could go again, I said somewhat facetiously only if you marry me. Note we were married within a year!

Writing
About ten years ago I decided to put pen to paper. I committed myself to writing a series of books which I labelled “Born Again Hunter”. So far I have published two volumes in my series and I’m working on my third.
